Physical Education and Development

PARTICIPATION & FUN IS OUR MOTTO AT ST PIUS X

All children participate in a variety of sporting experiences enjoyment, build confidence, develop coordination and acquire skills.

Fitness, teamwork, sportmanship and recognition of effort are the key focus achievements of the Physical Education Program.

Family engagement is a valued element of building a strong school community. Family Fun Nights are highlighted sporting events held throughout the year ranging from Tabloid Sports, Athletics and Tennis Tournaments. Sports House achievements are recognised and celebrated by the whole community with the presentation of trophies and shields.

Participation in Community events is encouraged and seen as a valuable opportunity for everyone to focus on the importance of physical fitness for good health and wellbeing. Active April, Ride to School, Jump Rope for Heart and Active October are all examples of a community approach to integrating a school-wide Physical Education Program.

Camps also play an integral role in providing challenging experiences in Outdoor Education for our senior children.

All children in Prep-Year 6 participate in the swimming program, as well as our Year 3-6 children compete in District and Regional Sports and Cross Country events.

St Pius X partners with local Sporting Clubs encouraging children to participate in a variety of team games.

A good relationship with Scouting Victoria supports children to experience personal development and establish friendships and social networks through outdoor pursuits.

A buddy system is enjoyed by all, focused on a Kids teaching Kids approach. Secondary School students and Melbourne Poly Technic VCAL students mentor and coach our younger children in a variety of sporting games during playtimes.

Walk to School

Walk to School takes place each October, and is designed to raise awareness of the physical, environmental and social benefits of active transport (walking to school), and encourage school children to walk to and from school more often.

Walking to school can help children to achieve the recommended 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous activity every day, and adopt physical activity habits for life. Walking to school can help also reduce traffic congestion, parking difficulties and the associated environmental impacts.

We want to encourage children and their parents to start walking to and from school on the first day of term 4, and keep it up each school day throughout October

Sanitarium Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon

St Pius X promotes participation in the Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon. Evidence suggests that physically active children are more likely to mature into physically active adults and eight out of ten parents believe their child’s self-esteem/self-confidence improved as a result of participating in the Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon. The Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon encourages Aussie kids to enjoy physical activity where the emphasis is on completion, not competition.
